Hard Wax vs. Soft Wax
There are many varieties and brands of wax, but really there are two main categories: hard wax and soft wax. While soft wax (more often used for body waxing, especially larger areas such as legs, backs, arms and armpit) is applied with a waxing spatula and removed using muslin strips, hard wax is quite a bit different. It takes more skill and precision to apply, and is removed without the use of a strip. It is thicker and also applied using a spatula.
Hard wax is great for face and areas with sensitive skin (such as bikini line) as it attaches itself to the hair and not to the actual skin. This is amazing for people with skin sensitivities or have had issues with soft wax in the past.
